The name Hyacinthus comes from the Greek hero 'Hyacinthos'. The bulbs are native to the Mediterranean, but the Hyacinths as we know them today were cultivated in Holland; this cultivation can be traced back to Greek and Roman times, and in the 17th and 18th centuries, Hyacinth bulbs were extremely valuable. Hyacinths are excellent for pots (both indoors and outdoors) and the garden. They have a beautiful fragrance.
